Edge Start

Edge starting is required on thicker material that the torch has trouble piercing through. The edge start requirement changes based on the torch you have and the material type you are cutting. Mild Steel edge starting on a Powermax 65/85 starts at 7/8”, Powermax 105 starts at 1”, and a Powermax 125 starts at 1 ¼”. This walkthrough will be cutting a 1” thick Mild Steel 6”x6” square with a Powermax 85 on 85A.

 

 

1.  Make sure you have you project and plasma setting correct and your lead in/lead out is going to be on the edge of your material.

 

- This set up is with 5x10 full sheet of 1” Mild Steel

 

- Perimeter are cut clockwise. Make sure the lead in is not set up to start on the inside of your material



2.  Click and drag the toolpath so the edge of the lead in is directly on the edge of the material.



3.  Set zero X and Y

 

-  Make sure material is square

 

-  Set zero X and Y so the center of the torch is directly on the edge of the sheet

 

-  Run the program (the lead in pierce should be on the edge of the sheet)
